Why do you call them upside down? That's an Altec configuration.
Because the near point source proximity of the HF and LF elements is lost, and the midbass horn is firing critical midrange at your ankles.

Perhaps it is an acceptable compromise in the Magnificent versions(and probably other circumstances too), but i'll take my whipped cream on top please.

I can't get past how lifeless and dull the cabinets look. It really looks like a picture of wood grain to me, rather than actual woodgrain........ like a late 70's console stereo, but without the embellishments.
Definitely not a look i would choose. But consider that WAF thing you see male domestic servants talk about on other forums. The dictator of those premises are more likely to accept those than your typical industrial gray box likely sporting 4 or 5 decades of battle scars and screen overspray.
